SEAGEP Student Conference Travel Program

The SEAGEP Program offers travel support to STEM PhD students to attend conferences and professional meetings. Students may apply for a travel award by completing a SEAGEP Student Travel Grant Proposal. Proposals may be submitted anytime during the school year but at least two months prior to travel date.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • USC PhD STEM student
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Commitment to a career in academia in a STEM field

Proposal Guidelines:
The following items/actions are required for a Student Travel Grant Proposal to be considered for funding:

  • SEAGEP Student Travel Grant Proposal Cover Sheet in Adobe PDF
  • Project description: This section should include your travel plans (name, date, and location of conference/professional meeting), the purpose of the trip (i.e., title of your presentation/poster - if any, etc.), an explanation of the value of this meeting/conference to your program of study and or professional skills development, and a career goals statement (Limit three pages single spaced).
  • Proposed budget, including any other sources of support that will be used to fund the trip. (A typical SEAGEP award will be no more that $500).
  • Biographical sketch in NSF format
  • Student Information Form in Adobe PDF
  • Supplementary information: this should include a statement of support from your faculty advisor in support of the travel plans and any other relevant documents.

Proposals should consist of no more than ten pages including the required Proposal Cover Sheet and other items.

Students will be informed by e-mail of the status of their proposal and if awarded, will be required to complete necessary paperwork through the SEAGEP office before and after travel. Students receiving grants are required to submit a two-page report no later than one month after their return.
