University of South Carolina - Department of Chemical Engineering
NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates in Japan

Co-directors: Professor Christopher Williams & Professor Melissa Moss

Program Description

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of South Carolina (USC) is pleased to announce their international REU site, based in Japan, for the Fall Semester of 2007.  This program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF).  Participants will have the opportunity to experience international research, as well as broaden their technical, cultural, and social horizons.  The focus country was chosen based on its importance as a trading partner with the US and the high quality of research conducted in the field of chemical engineering in Japanese universities. All participants will work closely with a faculty member at Osaka University in Osaka, Japan, as well as report progress and findings weekly to their USC research advisor.  Special group events such as tours of industrial sites in Japan, and several social and cultural activities will be conducted in addition to individual research projects.
