Casey Hetrick received his degree in chemical engineering from Kansas State University in May of 2003. During his undergraduate study, Casey conducted research for Dr. Keith Hohn at Kansas State while also teaching and tutoring undergraduates in the chemistry department. In August of 2003, he joined Dr. Amiridis' group to begin his study of heterogeneous catalysts, particularly metal oxides. Catalyst characterization and kinetic and spectroscopic studies are being used to understand and improve the oxidation of chlorinated VOCs with a focus on chlorinated aromatics. In 2004 and 2005, Casey worked with Prof. Kaneda at Osaka University on homogeneously catalyzed reactions and was also a mentor for the undergraduates in the Japan NSF-REU Program .
