Karen Uffalussy received her BS degree in Chemical Engineering and BS in Chemistry at North Carolina State University . During her sophomore year at NCSU she did an National Science Foundation REU at the University of Delaware under Dr. Mark Barteau and Dr. Suljo Linic investigating Styrene Oxide oxametallacycle intermediates under UHV conditions. The following year, Karen was awarded the Eastman Scholarship for the 2002-2003 academic year, which included an internship the summer of 2002 at Eastman. During this internship, Karen worked in the Catalysis Intermediates Research Group with Dr. Richard Colberg doing Aspen simulations and with Dr. John Monnier investigating autoclave hydrogenation reactions. The following academic year Karen was awarded the Astronaut Scholarship , which allowed her to stay an extra year to finish out her Chemistry degree at NCSU. Karen worked in Dr. Henry Lamb's Lab for fall 2002 through Summer 2004, while also TA'ing several courses and volunteer tutoring through AIChE at NCSU. Karen spent Summer 2004 teaching several Chemical Engineering Camps focusing on Fuel Cells with Dr. Lisa Bullard and in conjuction with the College of Engineering at NCSU. Karen joined Dr. Amiridis' Group in Fall 2004 at the University of South Carolina to pursue her interests in catalysis. Email:uffaluss@engr.sc.edu |
