Harry J. PloehnHarry J. Ploehn – Personal Stuff

Hello, friends and family! You can reach me at [My E-mail ID] and at (803) 777-7307 at work.

If you think I have time to build a really great personal web page, get real! I only have time for three things: my faith in God, my family and friends, and my work.

My curriculum vita describes my educational and professional history.

My Faith in God

"You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. Keep these words…in your heart. Write them on the doorposts of your house." (Deut. 6:5-6,9)

I believe that God created a universe that is too wonderful for us to ever fully understand.  I believe in salvation through faith in Jesus Christ who died to pay for the sins of each of us and bring us back into a right relationship with God.  I believe that, when we accept who Jesus is and what he did for us, God the Holy Spirit dwells within us, giving our lives direction and meaning.

DISCLAIMER:  I am by no means perfect – I do things every day that make me look like a total hypocrite.  If I have offended you or otherwise done something that makes you wonder, “How can that guy call himself a Christian?”, I apologize.  I hope you’ll let me know so I can try to do better tomorrow.

If you ever want to discuss Christianity, please come see me or call me.  If you just want more details about the Christian faith, please click here.

Harry J. PloehnMy Family and Friends

After my faith in God, my priorities are as follows:  my wife, my kids, my colleagues and students, and my work.

Here is a picture of me and my family.  My wife, Carolyn, is a native of Michigan and a graduate of Michigan State University and Princeton University.  She has four degrees including a doctorate in Chemical Engineering.  She has retired from the engineering profession and now has a much tougher job – managing our household.  My daughter Patty is now almost seven years old and is a first-grader at Forest Lake Elementary School.  She loves horses and nags us continually to get her a dog.  My son Will is will be four next year and attends preschool at North Trentholm Baptist Church.  He loves trucks and trains.

My Work

For an outline of my educational and professional history, please see my curriculum vita. The web page of the Department of Chemical Engineering contains a description of my research program.
