How to do a Citation Count? - July 10, 2004

Here is a short note on how to do a citation count on a hypothetical faculty member, the closest approximation to the one that NRC would produce.

  1. Go to the ISI Web of Science Home Page [Click Here].

  2. Click the checkbox by "Science Citation Index Expanded" [If in doubt, check all three]

  3. Click "General Search".

  4. In the "Author" box, type the [last name][space][first initial][middle initial].

  5. In the "Address" box, type the zip code of the university in which the author is located.

  6. Scroll down, if you like, to "Set limits and sort option" and select "Article" in the center column.

  7. Click "Search" [either above or below the boxes].

Please note that this will only work if you have subscription to ISI Web of Science!
