Beau
Waldrup was born in Jackson, Mississippi. When he was four his family
moved to Midlothian, Virginia where he was raised, just about thirty
minutes southwest of Richmond. He attended college at Virginia
Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia, from 1999-2003 where
he received he Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering. While
attending VCU, he completed research in various subjects. Some of the
areas in which he worked while at VCU are; thermodynamic phase
behavior and compiling phase diagrams using graphical programming
languages, protein application/activity on thin films, adhesion of
thin films, long term solvent effects on stress and strain of material
samples, studies in microfiltration using polysulfone membranes and
the development and study of catalysts for preferential CO oxidation.
The latter research topic finally spurred Beau to come to the
University of South Carolina to work with Dr. Williams using Sum
Frequency Spectroscopy (SFS) to study heterogeneous reactions at
interfaces. Apart from school, Beau was recently married and enjoys
lifting weights, playing sports and playing video games. |
