Yaritza M. Lopez was
born in Caguas, Puerto Rico. She obtained her BS and MS degree in
Chemical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez
campus. She also has been certified as an engineer in training (EIT)
from the Puerto Rico department of state. She did research as an
undergraduate student measuring the axial dispersion in bubble columns
for Newtonian and Non-Newtonian fluids. Her Thesis research for her
master’s degree was focused on the characterization of PEM Fuel cells
using non-steady state electrochemical techniques. She also did a
student summer internship at IPR, Pharmaceuticals, in Carolina, PR She
also worked for one year in the Environmental and Utilities department
at Lilly, Inc. in Mayagüez, PR as coop student characterizing their
waste water treatment plant and with the hazardous wastes storage,
transportation and disposal procedures and regulations. She is
currently enrolled in the Chemical Engineering Ph.D program at the
University of South Carolina where she will be working in catalysis
and nanotechnology area synthesizing and characterizing bimetallic
nanocatalyst using dendrimer synthesis methods.
